Use

We generally use the prepositions to and toward to talk about movement in the direction of an end point. The examples below show direction of movement as shown on the map below.

To is used when the specific destination is mentioned.

• The man is walking to the Tower Bridge.

Toward is used to express movement in the general direction of a place.

• The man is walking toward London Street.

Example:

The man is walking to the Tower Bridge.

Explanation:

The preposition to indicates that the man is going to a specific destination, the Tower Bridge.

How to build

We use this structure to create a prepositional phrase with prepositions of direction to and toward:

to/toward + article + destination noun

• If you drive toward the beach, you will find many bech bars.

• I took the children to the museum.
