Use

We use possessive pronouns to show ownership. Instead of using two words, possessive determiner + noun, we use one word, a possessive pronoun. Possessive pronouns help us avoid repetition.

Example:

The bike is yours.

Explanation:

The possessive pronoun yours is used to show that the bike belongs to you.

How to build

The possessive pronouns are mine, yours, his, hers, ours, and theirs.

We use a different possessive pronoun to replace each possessive adjective.

• This is my bike. → This bike is mine.

• This is your bike. → This bike is yours.

• This is his bike. → This bikeis his.

• This is her bike. → This bike is hers.

• This is our bike. → This bike is ours.

• This is their bike. → This bikeis theirs.

There is no possessive pronoun for ‘it’.
