Green at Google Headquarters

Poziom:

Temat: Środowisko

>>Google's a really easy place to be green 'cause there's constant dialogue going on.
Googler's organize over an internal website to coordinate rides into work.
I live in San Francisco so my bike commute is about 45 miles.
I've done it once. It's a bunch of fun to do with lots of people.
So on days when I'm not up for riding the 45 miles down from the city, Google has shuttles
to and from different destinations in San Francisco and all over the peninsula to get
to work. The shuttles all run on bio diesel so they're
sustainable. Google has an internal website where I can
check out a car for free. It's plugged in to solar panels that power the cars while
they're parked here and wait for employees to use.
It's a pretty crazy perk to see. There's a whole parking lot of them and a
big roof of solar panels above. Instead of taking a shuttle, I hop on a campus
bike to get from building to building for meetings.
Definitely adds to the playfulness of the campus and I feel I get there faster than
any shuttle would allow. This is a picture of me in the garden that's
outside some of our Google cafes. We have two gardens on campus and they're
all edible so everything in the garden is used in our cafes.
Cafe 150 is a great spot on campus that only serves food grown within 150 miles of the
Google campus. The theme of today was corn.
Corn was in the main entree... I think it was even in the dessert and it all tasted
fantastic. I think I wanted to work at Google because
it was a socially responsible company and I think corporate social responsibility is
a hot buzz word right now but it's amazing to be able to do something that I know how
to do well as part of a broader initiative to do some things sustainably.
To do something progressive. I'm not the "green" kid at Google.
It's everyone that's all around here.
