Nuclear Energy Issue Likely to Dominate Election Campaign

Poziom:

Temat: Wiadomości

June 6, 2011 Parliamentary election campaign may to a large extent focus on the issue of nuclear power plants, as the leftist opposition party SLD and junior coalition partner PSL see a need for a political debate on the subject. SLD will be the first one to touch upon the subject, as it plans to initiate in mid-June a political debate on whether it makes sense to build nuclear power plants in Poland, the daily Polska The Times found out. PSL also sees a need for debate. There is definitely too little debate on the matter and the government's manner of informing about the nuclear program is objectionable, PSL parliamentary caucus head Stanislaw Zelichowski said. The ruling PO opposes the idea of a referendum, as the law on nuclear energy has been recently discussed in the lower house of the parliament, PO member Antoni Mezydlo said. Surprisingly enough, PO's main rival - the conservative PiS agrees with the ruling party. Poland should have access to the latest technologies, therefore building a nuclear power plant is a necessity, head of PiS parliamentary caucus Mariusz Blaszczak said. [[/]]Source: The Warsaw Voice
