Foreign Workers in Demand

June 15, 2011 Polish companies are more and more willing to employ foreigners, particularly from the eastern countries such as Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Georgia and Moldova, data from the Labor Ministry shows as cited by the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. The number of job offers for foreigners this year is expected to amount to at least 270,000, 50% more than the last year's number of 180,000 the ministry says. The number of job offers for foreigners in Mazowieckie region in the period January-May 2011 amounts to over 80,000 on a 50% y/y increase, while the yearly increase for Wielkopolskie region amounts to 74%. The trend is to hold on in the coming years, as the Polish society will be getting older, the daily writes. The majority of foreigners from the East work in agriculture, the daily adds.
