Aborigines

Aborigines are native people of Australia. When Europeans colonized Australia, many of Aborigines died. Europeans treated them badly. Aborigines were ill of smallpox, because they had no immunity. Europeans wanted to dominate Aborigines. They took their children away from them and tried to bring them up in white families. Those children were called "The Stolen Generation". Aborigines were brilliant hunters. Sometimes they were employed to catch prisoners. They new much about natural medicine. They had many rules and superstitions. Aborigines wear special white mixture of plants and animal fat on their body. That mixture protects their skin from the sun and repels insects. Today majority of Aborigines live in the cities. Some still live in poverty, so there are now special grants to help them get on education.
