Poland Ends 2010 with Public Debt Estimated at 53pct of GDP

March 31, 2011 Poland will close the books on 2010 with public debt at 748.5 billion zlotys, an estimated 53% of GDP, deputy the Finance Ministry said in a statement, confirming earlier report by deputy FinMin Dominik Radziwill. The public debt includes PLN 693.8 bln in government sector debt, 53.53 billion zlotys in local authorities sector debt, and 1.15 billion zlotys in debt of the social security system, the FinMin said in a report. The sum would put the debt total at 53% of GDP, based on preliminary GDP estimates from the Central Statistics Office GUS, Radziwill noted. "The ratio is lower than the prior forecast of the Finance Ministry mainly on account of lower than expected rise in local government debt," Radziwill states. Source: The Warsaw Voice
